Virtual Technologies in Education

Virtual technologies are computer-generated, immersive simulations that give the user an experience of being present in the virtual environment. They provide users with an immersive experience that activates all five senses. They are used for a variety purposes, ranging from assisting surgeons during surgeries to treating mental health issues like severe phobias and cases of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

VR can also aid students learn STEM subjects such as science. The abstract concepts that are difficult to grasp through textbooks can be brought to life in a virtual world. For example, Futuclass has created a VR course for chemical reactions that is interactive and gamified. Students can participate in experiments and discover the fundamentals of reaction balancing through hands-on experiences they can share with classmates.

VR is also extremely efficient in teaching soft skills. It can be utilized by frontline employees, such as customer service representatives or managers, to learn how to communicate more effectively with customers. VR can also be used to simulate real-world situations that are likely to happen in the workplace, like an unpleasant customer experience.

A survey conducted by EaseVRx found that teachers are confident using VR in their classrooms. The results reveal that 2% of teachers aren’t confident in implementing VR in their classes, but 14% are confident, and 28 percent are extremely confident. Respondents expressed positive views of the speed at that VR technology was implemented in their classrooms.
